On 11th December, 2013, the Supreme Court of India upheld the validity of the section 377 of the Indian penal code. For those of you who aren’t aware, it states that ” Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with imprisonment for life, or with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.” (Yes, I Wiki’d it.) For those of you who still aren’t aware maybe I’ll have to throw a dictionary at your face, but anyways saaf shabdo mein it means “if you’re gay and you screw, then baby you’re screwed!” Which means now you have to pay a fine and face 10 years of imprisonment by being a homosexual. Yes people, you have to pay and go to jail just because you love somebody who is of the same sex as you are.
Its been about 6 months, 13 days, 8 hours, 21 minutes and 37 seconds since then and no amendments have been made against it. But well, the decision of repealing or amending this law is now in the hands of the Parliament and not the judiciary so there was no hope anyways. We’ve also had a new government with its very own flamboyant leader Modiji who hailed the quotation “Acche din aane wale hai” on our faces. If by acche he meant ‘Humshakals’ making 40 crore on its first weekend then boy was he so wrong. But then if movies like ‘Humshakals’ continue making money, who actually personify gay people as Bobby Darling having a vanilla ice-cream, then its a very sad state of the country, people.
Now I can’t promise you things will get better. Why is that so?
“We support the decision of Supreme Court. It is completely against the culture of the nation.”- Ram Gopal Yadav, Samjwadi Party leader
“We welcome the decision of the court because it is important that Section 377 remains. It is not only women who can be exploited and harassed but men also get exploited so there is a a need for a law to protect men too.”- Meenakshi Lekhi, BJP leader
“ I don’t talk about such things, Shiva Shiva (and laughed).”- Prakash Javdekar, BJP leader and MP
“I juss want mah Mommyyy”- Rahul Gandhi, Congress Leader and a loving son
So these are idiots who actually run our country and yes, our hopes and dreams are now as low as their IQ levels.
Now some brilliant minds might comment to the above stating “Why are you so concerned? Are you a gay too #YOLO #SalluBhaiRocks #InstaPicOfTheDay” To which I’d say yes this makes me gay, similarly as having a pet makes me a dog and to oppose littering makes me garbage. To idiots who won’t understand sarcasm and would thus misquote me, No, this does not mean I’m gay. I’m only doing this because despite of losing our minds, our pride and our self esteem, we, not as Indians, but as humans haves something that still makes us who we are. Our Humanity.
Now why have I been a dormant bomb since six months, and have now decided to explode? Its because I saw this video “Ishq ki Ijaazat” by Satyanshu and Devanshu Singh, the twins who gave the beautiful poems in ‘Udaan’ on Youtube. No, this is not an advertisment for the video, its more of a recommendation.
Now you might not watch this video, I don’t force you to. I don’t expect you to go on violent protests or strikes(We’ve been through that, haven’t we?) because maybe our governing bodies are too negligent enough to notice that. But I only expect you to know it, in your hearts, that even though our judiciary has declared it a crime, loving someone who is of the same sex isn’t one, because if each and everyone of us believe this in our hearts, then maybe one day our kids might live in an India we always dreamed of. A country which respects the personal freedom of an individual. Because maybe thats what independence is all about, right?
